Dog Keep Getting Ticks? How To Kill Them In Your Yard And Keep Them Under Control

About Me
Understanding Tree Service

After struggling for quite some time to make my yard more beautiful, I finally realized that I needed to make a few changes to the trees. We had some really overgrown trees that looked terrible, so I started focusing on honing them carefully. I started working with an arborist to make things better, and it was really incredible to see how those simple changes opened up my yard. Before I knew it, I was getting a little more sun on my flower garden and the different parts of the yard looked healthier. Check out this website to find out how to improve your outdoor space.

If you have a dog that goes outside often, they may bring in ticks with them. If you work outside, you could also get ticks resulting in itchy bites. Fortunately, there are things you can do to kill the ticks in your yard, as well as how to keep them under control.

Keep reading to learn more about tick control methods.

Kill Ticks in Yard

Even though you will never kill every tick in your yard, you can cut down on how many there are. One thing you can try is to purchase a tick tube. The tube is made of cardboard that has cotton inside. The cotton has been treated with poison that will kill ticks. A poison often used for this is known as permethrin. Put several of these tubs around your yard.  Once ticks get inside, they will die. It can also help if you have mice, as mice can also have ticks on them. Mice will take the cotton back to their nest.

If you continue to see ticks on your dog, it is time to contact a pest control company. They will spray your yard with the proper pesticide that will kill ticks. They will know where to spray and can use a pesticide that does not kill grass and other vegetation. They may have to come back more than one time to kill most of the ticks.

Control Ticks

Before you start controlling ticks, protect yourself with a tick-repellant spray. You can purchase this spray at any home improvement store. Once you do this, remove brush and other debris from your yard. Ticks can hide in these areas waiting until they find a host, such as you or your dog. Mow your lawn regularly as tall grass is also another place for ticks to hide. You may even kill a few ticks while you are mowing.

Hire a tree service to prune overgrown bushes and shrubs for you. If you have trees that are overgrown, and branches are low to the ground they should also be trimmed. A tree service can tell you if other areas should be trimmed in your yard as well.

Take care of areas that have water. For example, if you have a leaky hose you need to replace the hose or repair the spigot. If you have areas that have standing water after it rains, you likely have a slope in your yard that needs to be taken care of. You need to treat your dog with flea control as this also includes tick control in most cases.

The pest control company and tree service can give you much more information about killing and controlling ticks.
