Maintaining Your Trees This Summer: Steps To Take

About Me
Understanding Tree Service

After struggling for quite some time to make my yard more beautiful, I finally realized that I needed to make a few changes to the trees. We had some really overgrown trees that looked terrible, so I started focusing on honing them carefully. I started working with an arborist to make things better, and it was really incredible to see how those simple changes opened up my yard. Before I knew it, I was getting a little more sun on my flower garden and the different parts of the yard looked healthier. Check out this website to find out how to improve your outdoor space.

Maintaining Your Trees This Summer: Steps To Take

When you own a house with many trees on the property, you may find yourself thinking about what you want to do with your landscaping this summer. One of the many aspects of your landscaping that you will want to attend to is your trees. Taking care of and maintaining trees requires some work and effort that you might not have previously considered. Get to know some of the ways you can go about maintaining your trees this summer. Then, you can be sure you are doing everything to keep your trees looking great and healthy through the summer season.

Watch for Trees that Do Not Bud

One of the first orders of business is to look for trees that do not seem to bud and grow leaves this summer. Generally, trees begin to bud in early spring or by mid-spring at the latest. Leaves develop and the tree fleshes out for the season. However, this is not always the case.

Sometimes, trees sustain too much damage in the winter months and die. These trees oftentimes remain standing and may even still appear hearty and strong, but if they do not bud at all, you are probably looking at a dead tree. Alternatively, if the majority of the tree does not bud but a little bit does, you may be looking at a dying tree.

These trees will need to be removed as soon as possible to prevent them from falling in heavy winds or rains during summer storms. Dead trees are a danger to your home and to the people in and near your it. Contact a tree service company to remove such trees as soon as possible.

Trim Off Dead Branches

Winter can kill off entire trees or severely damage parts of trees. When you are out inspecting for dead trees, you will also want to look at individual branches that might not have fleshed out (when the rest of the tree has done so). These branches are also a hazard and can actually damage the health of the rest of the tree if left on the tree. Trim these branches to create a healthier and more uniform-looking tree.

Remove Low-Hanging Branches to Shape Your Tree

For most people, their ideal tree will have branches that extend upwards into the sky, leaving room to stand, walk, and sit under the tree. However, sometimes nature has other ideas in mind and trees grow low-hanging branches. If you want your landscaping design to be as welcoming and enjoyable as possible, you will want to have low-hanging branches removed and something applied that will prevent regrowth in the same spot. This will help to give your trees a nice, aesthetically pleasing shape.
